Representative Theocracy....?

So, folks, just a thought, but I thought this country had a separation of church and state? I thought that we were supposed to be a representative democracy or republic at the least. It appears, however, that I was wrong. VP Candidate Palin seems to think that the war in Iraq is part of God's plan. I believe that this is called a Crusade or a Jihad or in plain English an excuse to kill thousands of people in the name of a divine entity. Usually a cheap way of differing the attention of a populace or justifying to them, a land and resource grab. Pause for a second and think about this, we're not supposed to be an imperialistic country, we're supposed to demonstrate that people having freedoms, even the freedom to think we're nuts and a bunch of heretics, can work as part of a country's governing beliefs. Last I checked this didn't include launching "wars that are part of God's plan." Next, forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't oil and our dependence on it part of the huge economic crisis we're having in this country right now? So is God's Will, that we prolong this dependence by using time and resources that might be better spent researching alternative energies on a pipeline in Alaska? Forgive me again if I seem a little overly critical, but again, from my understanding, we were given free will and the ability to think for ourselves, so why is anyone willing to follow this tired out, short sighted, redundant line of crap that has been being fed to us since the 1980's? Go ahead all my Palin-drone little friends, fall in line and keep believing that oil from Alaska and a war in Iraq will salve all our problem cause God Wills It. The Nazi's believed that genocide would salve all their problems, look where that got them. It saddens me how far the Republican party has fallen from the place it once held and lost sight of the vision it once represented. Now we have the choice of voting for a man who chose a narrow minded zealot for a running mate or a some one who believes we need constant supervision in order to do anything correctly.

Herbs, of all types, sorta

So I've been packaging herbs for Danelawtraders.com over the last couple of days (working is a reasonable break from moving in my mind) and I'm very impressed with the quality of what we have so far. If anyone has anything they would like to see us carry please send me your requests. You can even leave it as a comment right here if you want or leave it as an email at Danelawtraders.com.

So for any one who has only gotten the rumor mill version, Saturday was a bang up night at my bar. We had a real blow up and threats of a pistol whipping were made in my direction. darkena did get clipped in the mouth and yes it did need stitches. Yes the police did get called and yes they did show up in force with guns drawn. No, no one got badly hurt, several people were arrested. Yes we probably will end up in court, ah well. For once i am very pleased with the way the weals of the legal system are grinding. Until the next time folks.

Stormgaurd Anniversary Party

Just arrived home from the Stormgaurd aniversary party and let me tell you, Lady Arastorm and the rest of her family through one hell of a bash! If every party I went to was of this caliber I wouldn't have time for anything else. My heart felt thanks for their hospitality and generosity, not to mention the amazing conversation and company.

Fun language. I've begun reteaching myself Latin so that I can actually translate some of the old texts I've come across.

Mulus silvam spectat. Silva mulum spectat, etc.

Learning a new language, need a few suggestions

I'm looking to learn Icelandic as it is the closest language still in existence to the languages spoken by the Norse. Since my persona is an Anglo/Norse mariner/merchant I have a strong interest in learning one of the languages he would have been fluent in. If any one has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Holy Crap

So I went to Borders today, motorcycle jacket + cane and a whole crap load of pain, in an attempt to find the written report of the Birka dig. Baring that, the digs in York or the Sutton Hoo treasure, books you'd think would be in the archeology section right? No, any of the texts I was searching for would have to be ordered and none of them had a starting price tag below $50. Grumble. So in desperation I went to the language's section hoping to find my Icelandic primer and some material to help me dust off my Latin. The one Icelandic primer in the store had gone missing so that was a complete wash, but I did find my Latin primer so I guess it wasn't a total loss. Sigh, try again next week I guess.

Off to work again

Well, I'm off to work again on a beautiful Tuesday night. I look forward to long hours of minimal human contact, during which I plan on finishing my two currant books. If any one has any good books pertaining to the 800's (nonfiction please) or just entertaining books to recommend please let me know.

Thank you,
